| The Itaipu hydroelectric power plant, the largest in operation worldwide until completion of the Three-Gorges-Project in China, has an installed capacity 14,000 MW which equals 25 large, coal-fired thermal power plants or 12 nuclear power plants. It is a project developed jointly by Brazil and Paraguay, on the Parana River.
