Linker Donausammelkanal, Austria

Municipal authorities of the city of Vienna
To assure efficient wastewater management in the future, the Vienna municipality expanded the pumping station for the Linker Donausammelkanal (Left Danube Intercepting Sewer, LDS). Two additional 10 m³/s pumps were installed in the stormwater section of the pumping station.

In July 1997, Voith Siemens Hydro was awarded the contract to supply:

  • two directly coupled vertical propeller pumps
  • three-phase synchronous motors with slip ring rotors
  • penstocks
  • 2,000 mm diameter shut-off valves
  • 2,000 mm diameter check valves

In order to maintain emergency functions it was necessary to assure that work was performed in a way that the station could be set back to full operation within two hours.

The main installation work began in June 1998, the plant was recommissioned in August 1998.
