Karkamis is situated on the Euphrates River forming the provincial border between Gaziantep and Sanliurfa and is
4.5 km upstream of the Syrian border.
The power plant has a total installed capacity of 189 MW, comprising six bulb turbine units with a maximum turbine power of 35,5 MW each.
Voith Siemens Hydro, as a consortium member, was responsible for manufacturing, delivery, erection and commissioning of all 6 bulb turbine units including the governor system.
Commercial operation of the first unit started in December 1999, 11 days earlier than planned. All other units were handed over to DSI at least one month ahead of schedule. On February 2002 the final acceptance was signed. |
